The aim of this website is to showcase one of the most recognisable features of gaelic games – the Carlow jersey.
Taking inspiration from online archives such as Irish Soccer Shirts and Pride in the Jersey, I attempt to document the historic visual identity of Carlow county teams. This is done in two ways:
- Showcasing my own personal collection of the jerseys worn at senior level, which currently consists of jerseys from c.1992 right through to the #CarlowRising period and beyond. The collection page is completed by illustrations of jerseys that I do not yet own.
- A chronological Historical Gallery of all pre-1992 jerseys (that I am aware of). Hopefully in time I will add some of these jerseys to my own collection.
1992 has developed as something of a natural break between the above two. It is around that time that replicas became more readily available, meaning physical examples are a little bit easier to attain to go alongside the match-worn jerseys of designs that were never sold to the public.
I do hope to add earlier jerseys (or reproductions) to the collection in time, and as I do they will get added to the collection page. Ultimately, I hope the personal collection will eventually piece together all the jerseys worn by Carlow senior hurling and football teams in competitive games to show the full evolution of the Carlow jersey over the years.
Camogie and Ladies Football specific jerseys may also become part of the collection in time, but due to the lack of availability of those jerseys until very recently, and the cost of completing four separate codes, for now it it only the men’s games that are part of the collection.
You can help by alerting me to any jersey variants that are currently not in my possession and which might be available for purchase or donation.
For the purposes of showing a complete timeline on the Collection page from 1992 onwards, jerseys missing from my physical collection are shown from match pictures. I really appreciate any help in filling the gaps that are missing. If you have any old Carlow jerseys that you would be willing to part with, especially pre-90s, please get in touch.
I hope that you enjoy seeing the collection, and having a simply presented timeline of the Scallion ‘Ater jersey.
